Family Development and Self-Sufficiency (FaDSS)
FaDSS is a voluntary program that provides in-home support to families in order for them to gain independence from public assistance.Eligibility: Households receiving Family Investment Program (FIP) benefits.
A certified FaDSS Specialist meets with a family that is receiving assistance from the State of Iowa Family Investment Program (FIP) twice a month to:
- Envision a better future
- Identify family strengths
- Identify goals and develop a plan to reach them
- Strengthen parenting skills
- Deal with family challenges & issues
- Overcome social & financial barriers
- Become independent of FIP
- Celebrate the success that FaDSS is designed to:
- Increase self-advocacy
- Empower families to remain self-sufficient
- Build on family strengths
- Improve self-esteem
- Promote education
- Encourage career planning
- Enhance job skills
- Secure affordable housing
- Offer referrals to community services
- Provide encouragement & support
