Provider Services: Training Opportunities
CCR&R offers training designed to help early childhood professionals meet licensing and registration requirements and become more successful in developing skills for working with children and families. In-service training is required by the Iowa Department of Human Services as minimum training requirements for persons employed in child development homes and centers. CCR&R maintains a web-based calendar of regional professional development opportunities.

Independent Video Self Study
- Sioux City, Sioux Center, and Orange City house videos available for interlibrary loan. The videos contain current information pertinent to the early childhood education field. Please allow 2 weeks to receive training certificate. View the Training Policies and Procedures regarding the process of receiving independent video training credit. Contact Jane at the Sioux City office to obtain video worksheets for approved videos.
- CPR and First Aid training is offered in local communities. A certificate or card will be issued after the completion of the training, by the instructor, which is necessary for licensing or registration. CCRR does not coordinate training or take registration. To register for a First Aid or CPR training contact an instructor or organization offering training in your area.
Region 1 Training Policies and Procedures
CCR&R Region 1 has training policies and procedures to ensure quality professional training opportunities are available to all child care providers. The policies and procedures also guide providers through the registration, training, and certificate process.
How to Register for Training:
- Decide which training you wish to attend
- Determine which area office is holding the training. Refer to the map below and the training calendar to determine the area office.
- Mail your registration and payment to Remsen (Mid-Sioux Opportunity) or to Graettinger (Upper Des Moines Opportunity) 5 business days prior to the training date. All trainings require pre-registration and pre-payment. Remember to indicate training title, town, city, and provider category on the registration form.

CCR&R encourages child care providers to know the location of the ICN training they will be attending so providers arrive on time and prepared.

- CCR&R Orientation - introduction to services provided by CCRR, data-base referrals and updating provider information, learn about Iowa's requirements for child care providers and how CCRR can help
- Universal Precautions - an in-depth look at the risks of disease transmission while caring for children, basic understanding of infection control and how to reduce risks-arranged through Healthy Child Care Iowa held 6 times a year
- Mandatory Reporter of Suspected Child Abuse - this training is required for anyone working in child care and is renewable every 5 years . This required class is available 6 times a year by ICN and taught by a Healthy Child Care Iowa nurse consultant.
- ChildNet - 25 hours (10 week) series for child development home providers.
- Welcome to Child Care - 10 hour, 5 week series for center staff
- Welcome to School Age Care -10 hour, 5 week series for persons who care for school-age children.
- Program for Infant & Toddler Care - 40 hour series in 4 modules, focus on relationships and early learning
Qualifications of becoming ChildNet Certified
