Mid-Sioux Opportunity, Inc. Announces New Program for

2010 Disaster Case Advocacy

Local Agency Provides Support for 2010 Disaster Survivors in

Ida, Cherokee, Sioux and Lyon Counties

Mid-Sioux Opportunity, Inc. is currently working with the Iowa Community Action Association (ICAA) to administer case management/advocacy services for individuals impacted by the 2010 disasters.  Case management advocates will work directly with individuals and families to determine their unmet needs and assist with efforts to recover. Advocates will remain in contact with families as much as necessary to assess how each person is doing in their recovery plan. Advocates will also network with other agencies and local Long Term Recovery Committees to see what services and resources are available to help Iowans best recover.

“We are pleased to be a part of the process to help families impacted by severe weather this past year.  Iowa is fortunate to have strong communities and excellent neighbor to neighbor support.  Mid-Sioux will do its part to serve families who need assistance.” said Dick Sievers, Executive Director.

Mid-Sioux Opportunity, Inc.'s Director, staff and volunteers will work alongside ICAA's Executive Director and staff, coordinating the efforts of fourteen local community action agencies around the state with the Rebuild Iowa Office and other state agencies.

The 38 disaster-impacted counties eligible for Disaster Case Advocacy Services and the state’s Unmet Needs Disaster Grant program are: Appanoose, Black Hawk, Boone, Calhoun, Cherokee, Clayton, Decatur, Delaware, Dubuque, Fayette, Franklin, Hamilton, Howard, Humboldt, Ida, Jackson, Jasper, Jones, Kossuth, Lee, Lucas, Lyon, Mahaska, Marion, Monroe, O’Brien, Osceola, Polk, Ringgold, Shelby, Sioux, Story, Taylor, Union, Wapello, Warren, Webster and Wright Counties.

According to Julie Colling, Housing/Energy Services Director, “Mid-Sioux should be able to assist approximately 60 families in the four-county area.  We welcome the opportunity to partner with the Iowa Community Action Association staff to provide case management/advocacy services for households in our area who are still facing financial difficulty due to this past summer’s disasters of high winds and massive flooding.”
